🖌 The return to the painting of the Italian schools that the “Alte Pinakothek” has, supposes a regression of Lippi with which this series begins, must be dated to the 1450s. The composition shows the virgin with the Child on her lap. He is in the attitude of caressing his mother’s face, in front of a rocky landscape where a river flows.
Both the arrangement of the figures and the background panorama are reminiscent of The Virgin with Child and Angels, from Florence, a more elaborate composition and from a slightly later date than that. 🏛🖼
